Snow Monkey Baby (Macaca fuscata)

Description

Witnessing the sight of curious baby Japanese macaques (Macaca fuscata), affectionately known as snow monkeys, enjoying a cozy bath in the steamy hot springs of Jigokudani Monkey Park was made even more special by the fall of fresh snow on our slippery hike up. What makes this species unique? They are the farthest north living non-human primate. To combat the cold climate, these snow monkeys seek warmth in the steaming waters during Japan's chilly winters. Observing their playful interactions amidst the snowy landscapes offers a unique glimpse into their world and the remarkable ways they've adapted to their environment.
